I’m a Drupal Developer.

In my time as a Drupal developer in Canberra I have had the chance to work with a wide range of businesses. From Federal Government departments, state agencies as well as small to medium businesses.

While still being a website developer, I am now more personally focused on my creative side making collectable sculptures.

I have developed Intranets, Extranets and Internet websites, online shops and registration access only sites.

I’ve built websites for Defence, DPMC, MDBA, and many more.

However, as is the way with websites, they get replaced so often, that there is only a handful left live at this point.

My time at GovCMS.

Currently I’m at Salsa Digital providing Level 3 support to GovCMS, helping the hundreds of websites on the platform. My role has expanded over time from just level 3 support, to include…

  • Rewrote the entire Introduction to Content Management and Advanced Content Management modules using Gitbook.

    Around 160 pages, teaching everything from:

    • How to login to Drupal

    • How to edit content

    • What Views are

    All the way up to:

    • Creating custom content types

    • Implementing Solr search with facets

    • Multistep webforms with conditional email handlers

    Worked with a Comms expert to rewrite and reproduce using the Synthesia AI voice platform a series of almost 50 videos covering topics in the manuals to give alternative learning pathways.

  • Created the GovCMS Census, a 100 question online form that I built in Drupal’s Webform module which was the first time in the 10 years of GovCMS that they went out and surveyed the entire platform to see how people were using GovCMS.

    The output from that helped inform the future of the platform.

    • Updated README.md file when a project is built from Scaffold

    • Rebuild the GovCMS Training website into Drupal 11

    • Implemented HTML email for the GovCMS training website so our welcome emails could be nice and styled

    • Leading the Technical Documentation Backlog team to ensure the GovCMS Knowledge Base is as up to date as possible

    • Manually upgraded around 30+ SaaS websites into Drupal 11

    • Self service Solr customisation for synonyms and stopwords

    • Updating the Lagoon tasks list to be more user friendly

    • Implementation of the Maintenance mode toggle task

    • Addressing conflicts between password expiration policy and oAuth’s use of user credentials

    • Adding additional Migration tasks to the Lagoon UI

    • Building a SaaS website that demonstrates all the available functionality in GovCMS

    • GovCMS Drivers Licence as a basic test for developers knowledge

    • Developer training to teach users about the quirks of GovCMS development

    • Making more knowledge base documentation public

    • Moving the release notes from Github into a more user friendly format

    • Trying to get the ECA module into the distribution

In 2013 I gave a talk at TEDxCanberra on the power that your mobile phone really has, and how you can leverage it to create something amazing.

Early that year I had attended an event in Canberra called GovHack. It is a huge event with teams around the country all competing against each other to come up with the most fun, inventive and thought-provoking way of using Government Data.

I was contacted on Instagram by a random Chinese account, which I obviously thought was a scam.

But after a bit of due diligence, I found out that it was actually real, and they wanted to show off some of my miniatures in an exhibition in Beijing.

My items are visible at 1:23 in the video.

I also do some bouldering in my free time, which as a guy on the bigger end of the spectrum, can be quite entertaining to watch.
